ABSTRACT

Due to the recent problems in health institutions, work analysis and workload studies for those working in health care areas have gained more importance. There are many studies related to this in the world and in our country. In this study, it was aimed to determine the number of nurses who can provide nursing care services according to the addiction levels of the patients. The service and intensive care units of Tire State Hospital with a bed capacity of 255 formed the universe. The sample consisted of patients hospitalized in the units where the study was conducted between 1-3 June 2022 and 28-31 August 2022. The Rush Medicus patient classification scale was used in data collection after its validity and reliability were established. Dependency levels of a total of 398 patients in inpatient units were calculated. Of the patients, 27.63% were independent, 29.64% low-level dependent, 27.38% moderately dependent, and 15.32% high-level dependent. According to the dependency levels, the 24-hour nursing care requirement is 2081 hours. On average, approximately 75 nurses are needed daily in 10 wards and six (primary and secondary care) intensive care units. A total of 210 nurses are needed to work in inpatient units. Of these, 118 are for wards and 92 for intensive care units. As a result, it has been determined that there are mostly high-level dependent patients in intensive care units. Depending on the services, the dependence levels of the patients differ. As a result of the calculation of addiction levels in an accredited hospital, it was determined that the number of nurses in the service and intensive care units was insufficient. It is seen that the number of nurses specified in the communiqué on the application procedures and principles of intensive care services in inpatient health facilities is not sufficient to meet the needs of patients. Nurses should be employed in line with the care needs of patients.
