ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to present the development and current status of policlinic and clinic servies in inpatient health institutions in Turkey by using basic indicators related to outpatient and clinical services. This study is descriptive in nature, Data of inpatient health institution numbers, the number of visits to inpatient health institutions, number of beds, inpatient numbers, bed occupancy rate, average stay days and bed turnover interval (in days) in Turkey has been interpreted thorough basic statistics such as number, percentages, ratios. According to the study results, it has been found that total number of visits to hospitals has been consistently rising in Turkey between the years of 2008-2017 and the total number of medical examinations has been found to increase by approximately 70% in 2017 compared to 2008. On the other hand, in terms of clinical services, overall hospitalization rates tended to decrease in comparison to the increase in the number of hospital visits. With these results, it is possible to say that in Turkey there is a trend towards focusing on policlinic services rather than to the inpatient treatment.
