ABSTRACT

Since the Spanish Flu of 1918, the last respiratory epidemic that posed a global threat and caused mass causalitites all over the world, the healthcare sector has advanced thanks to developments in medical sciences, technologies and management systems. While these developments have made the world feel safe from any possible epidemic to date, COVID-19 proved otherwise. The purpose of this study is to convey the experiences regarding the problems encountered in the management of the relevant health facility and system during the COVID-19 pandemic, the solutions produced for them and the administrative implications obtained in this process, in a private healthcare system composed of 16 hospitals and 8 outpatient centers in 7 cities in Turkey. Problems experienced in logistics, human resources, architectural design and renovations, electronic health record systems and maintaining basic health services during the process have shown that there are important improvement areas for managers. Quality and patient safety studies to be carried out in these areas will ensure the survival of health systems in terms of the next crises that humanity will experience.
