ABSTRACT

Some of the researchers have started to move their studies from labs to online platforms to cope with the unpredictable closure of the labs and the difficulties in recruiting participants during the pandemic, while others have started to take their lab work online to benefit from a wide variety of online communities. However, carrying labbased experiments to online platforms or creating new online experiments is not easy and seems rather overwhelming due to the steps they have that necessitate substantial attention. To facilitate this transition process, in this article, we provide an overview of the solutions that can be implemented in the design, hosting and recruiting steps, which are the important building blocks of online experiments. In adition, we are providing information about the applications that can be used in online experiment design. After creating a general pespective, we are discussing the advantages and disadvantages of web-based experiments. Our aim is to provide an introductory resource for researchers taking their first steps in the field of online experiments and to discuss the important aspects of this field. In this research, instead of theoretical information and the history of online experiments, the focus is on how to design online experiments in practice, which software can be preferred, and methods of assuring data quality.
